Private Sector Participation in the Indian Power

In September 2005, AFD’s Research Department launched a Research Program on Public Private Partnerships with an approach combining economic analysis (contractual incentives, financing of investment, etc.) with a sociological and political approach to regulatory issues. Various case studies have been conducted in different sectors (water and sanitation, power, transport) and countries. This study falls within the above research framework since India – like most major developing countries – has attempted to introduce market forces in its electric power systems.
