What is the role of research at AFD?

Global warming, safeguarding biodiversity, preserving social ties.... AFD is involved in developing hundreds of projects around the world to meet the UN's sustainable development goals. To better support project leaders in the field, AFD researchers are at the forefront of analyzing and understanding the facts and issues related to these themes.

Research helps anticipate and understand the many challenges facing our planet in order to act more effectively. Our teams are multidisciplinary and give a central place to research in the Global South and feeds into the public policy dialogue with partner countries.

At the crossroads between the academic world and the world of decision-makers, AFD's research team not only produces publications, but also modelling and analysis tools that feed into public policy and the work of development actors.
