Sommet Finance en commun : l’AFD mobilise 3 millions d’euros pour renforcer la structuration et le développement des Caisses des dépôts et consignations du Burkina Faso et de Côte d’Ivoire
During the Finance in Common Summit, Agence Française de Développement announced support for the structuring of the Caisses des Dépôts et Consignations in Africa. It is entrusting a €3 million grant to Expertise France to help structure the Caisses des Dépôts of Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire.

The mobilization of domestic savings is a major issue for the sustainable financing of African economies. The model of Caisses des Dépôts et Consignations (CDCs), which are institutions that ensure the transition between the State and private sector, allows this mobilization of African domestic resources for the economic and social development of the continent and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The facility to support the operationalization of the CDCs in Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire set up by AFD will make them leading actors in financing public development policies and strategies in their countries. The project implemented by Expertise France will assist the two Africa CDCs with the development of their investment strategies and business plans and help train their officers.

In 2015, the African Union adopted a strategy to encourage Member States to set up innovative financing mechanisms to double the contribution of African capital markets to the continent’s development. This is why Burkina Faso set up a CDC in 2017 and Côte d’Ivoire in 2018.

The French Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations will be the guarantor of the technical assistance provided. It will also contribute to facilitating the dialogue between the two African CDCs through its peer-to-peer bilateral cooperation with them and the multilateral relations under the Caisses des Dépôts Forum.
