AFD Group and the Aga Khan Foundation have signed an ambitious partnership to support coastal populations and ecosystems in the Indian Ocean.
On Friday, 11 July 2025, as part of the official visit to France by His Highness the Aga Khan V, a signing ceremony was held at the Élysée Palace to mark the adoption of an agreement between the French Republic and the Ismaili Imamat.
During the visit, AFD Group CEO Rémy Rioux and Aga Khan Foundation CEO Michael Kocher signed a joint statement in support of the Indian Ocean Coastal Restoration Initiative and the reconstruction and development of Mayotte.
The program aims to support the sustainable reconstruction and development of Mayotte, improve living conditions for coastal populations, and restore coastal ecosystems in several Indian Ocean countries, including Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, and Tanzania. This ambitious €100 million partnership seeks to combine local expertise with innovative financing mechanisms to address the climate emergency and strengthen the resilience of coastal communities.
