Supporting 2,000 young Jordanians and Syrian refugees in accessing employment and entrepreneurship opportunities in the manufacturing industrial hubs of Zarqa, Irbid, Amman and the entrepreneurial hubs of Ajloun and Jerash.
Context
The manufacturing sector contributes 18% to Jordan’s GDP in 2017 and is a preferential sector regarding the GoJ strategy to foster growth and employment along with the EU initiative in relaxing the rules of origin.
With almost 90% of Syrian refugees residing outside of refugee camps, Jordan’s employment situation demands a comprehensive and integrated approach to advancing TVET (Technical Vocational Education and Training) and employment while also promoting social cohesion and livelihoods, especially in Jordan’s poorest host communities.
Furthermore, to give access to the large majority of inactive Jordanians and Syrian refugees women into the labour market, Jordan’s industrial and entrepreneurial hubs are dependent on vocational training and employment becoming more inclusive and promotional of women economic participation.
TANMYEH Project strives to address Jordan’s skills gap and labour mismatch in the manufacturing sector, enhance the vocational labour market and human resources development.
Description
The project enhances vocational development as BDC consolidates the learning practices of the Vocational Training Corporation (VTC) and Private Academies with the labour demand of manufacturing employers. It builds on employment partnerships with the Industrial Chambers of Zarqa, Irbid, and Amman. The aim is to achieve employment and self-employment among female and male youth.
- TVET-behavioural training to 2,000 Jordanians and Syrian Refugees (50% of women), structural and inclusive job creation interrelated with industrial competitiveness.
- Access to employment and self-employment by offering job matching, career guidance and entrepreneurship support as well as boosting social cohesion and women economic participation.
- 80 Vocational Employment Leaders dedicated to psychosocial support and career guidance for vulnerable Syrian refugees and Jordanians.
- Innovation and job creation strengthening competitiveness, performance, and productivity of the sector thanks to French expertise and improving the industrial environment.
Impacts
On the labor market:
- Creation of a pool of employable youth with the competencies desired in manufacturing.
- 600 new businesses on the market, promoting job creation and generating revenues, fruitful for the Jordanian economy as a whole.
- Enhance inclusive employment and social cohesion in 5 host communities.
For refugees:
- Refugees will benefit from a program empowering them, enhancing their technical skills and accompanying them till and through employment, reducing their vulnerability.
- Increased income generation for them and their families, strengthened self-confidence and better inclusion in host communities.
