Lomé recycles its waste, it's clean!
published in September 2021
In Lomé, a coastal city with 1.4 million inhabitants and the capital of Togo, AFD has been supporting the modernization of the solid waste treatment system for several years. A new landfill was built as well as a system to isolate recyclable materials.
AFD is also providing support for the renovation of the landfill already in order to reduce its impact on the environment. The project has already made it possible to reduce the amount of plastic waste that was thrown directly into the street or discharged through drainage channels, as well as the amount of waste reaching the Atlantic Ocean.
