Economist Sylvain Bellefontaine is responsible for monitoring the international economy and serves as the point of contact for climate risks. He focuses in particular on China, Türkiye, Mexico, and Nigeria.

Sylvain Bellefontaine is an economist on the team responsible for assessing country risk in AFD’s countries of intervention, where he focuses on China, Türkiye, Mexico and Nigeria. He coordinates the MacroDev Semestrial Panorama series and oversees international economic trends, as well as climate risks.

RESEARCH PROGRAMME

Macroeconomic Analysis

Before joining AFD in 2019, Sylvain Bellefontaine spent 13 years as a senior economist in the Emerging Economies and Country Risk Department of BNP Paribas, responsible for Latin America, Turkey and Central and Eastern Europe.

He holds a DEA in economics (with a focus on European affairs) from the University of Lille I and a Master’s Degree in Development Economics and International Project Management from the University Paris XII.

He taught macroeconomics and country risk analysis at the Rabat School of Governance and Economics and at the University of Paris XII in 2013-2014, and at the University of Paris-Dauphine since 2015.
