The purpose of this project is increase universal access to electricity for Kenyans households in rural areas.
Context
To achieve universal access in Kenya in the remote areas, the Kenyan Power Lighting Company (KPLC) objective is to connect 100% Kenyan households to the national network grid.
Description
This project is part of the Kenyan government’s “Last Mile Connectivity Program” aimed at removing barriers to access electricity by connecting every household and customer within 600m from the current transformer. The target for this project is to provide access to electricity to 1.4 million Kenyans.
The project will connect 280 000 households spread across 32 counties.
The project has two components;
- An investment component to extend the distribution network’s medium and low voltage lines, distribution transformers and final connection to households;
- Capacity building for the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC).

Last mile connectivity will lead to the following benefits:
