Strengthen Local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to Provide Protection Services to Women and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Survivors in Palestine. The project, led by the NGO Development Center (NDC), contributes to improving the overall well-being of women and women survivors of GBV.
Description
This project seeks to address the critical shortage of support services for women and girls and enhance access to GBV multi-sectoral services. By empowering local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the West Bank and potentially Gaza, and providing them with financial and technical support to deliver critical services to disadvantaged and underserved target groups, the initiative will provide vital mental health and psychosocial support services (MHPSS), legal and social services, sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services and rapid livelihood assistance, with a primary focus on vulnerable women and girls, especially survivors of gender-based violence. These services will not only support individual recovery and empowerment but also foster safer, more cohesive communities. Indirectly, household members—including men and boys—and the broader community will benefit from improved well-being, protection, and economic stability, contributing to a more inclusive and resilient social fabric.
Co-funders
The total cost of the project is €1.667 million, comprising €1.5 million from AFD and €0.167 million in co-financing from the CSO grant recipients, over a period of three years.
Impacts
The project aims to empower CSOs to deliver comprehensive protection and support services to women and girls, including survivors of GBV. Through targeted sub-grants, 5,000 women and girls are expected to gain access to multi-sectoral services. Additionally, 100 women and girls will benefit from economic empowerment initiatives, including vocational training and income-generating activities. The project will also enhance the institutional and technical capacities of 7 to 9 CSOs, with an anticipated 20% improvement in their performance.
Sustainable Development Goals
Gender Equality
Goal 5 is specifically dedicated to the empowerment of girls and women. It focuses on achieving gender equality and aims to end all forms of discrimination and violence against women and girls around the world. Targets include eliminating discrimination and violence, ensuring women’s access to leadership and decision-making positions, and achieving universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights. This goal intersects with all 16 other SDGs: it supports the integration of gender in all public policy and encourages the adoption of specific policies to fight persistent inequalities, including affirmative measures in favor of women.
