Paris 2024 and Agence Française de Développement (AFD) have launched the “Impact 2024 International” call for projects dedicated to funding and supporting projects that place sport at the service of sustainable development in Africa. This call, that follows the second edition of the national “Impact 2024” call for projects extends Paris 2024’s legacy beyond borders.
Applications are open for African, French associations and sports movement

Through this call for projects, AFD and Paris 2024 are joining forces to support actors that share the conviction that sport provides solutions to global social issues such as health, education, equality, inclusion, solidarity, and the environment. In accordance with AFD and Paris 2024’s priorities, special attention will be paid to projects targeting vulnerable groups and countries or areas with fragile contexts.

Eligible structures (associations, foundations, local authorities, companies, sports clubs, federations, cooperatives, state structures, public structures, among others) are invited to submit their projects on the Sport en Commun platform until 1 September 2021. The winners will be announced in December 2021.

The winners will benefit from a funding of up to 40,000 euros per project. In addition to this call for projects, a call for expressions of interest will be implemented in 2022 to support the structuring of projects with up to 20,000 euros

Developing the role of sport for sustainable development in Africa

Created from AFD and Paris 2024’s joint desire to create a laboratory to bring the world of sport and the world of development closer together, the “Impact 2024 International” call for projects is fully in line with the legacy strategy of Paris 2024, and its priority of strengthening the role of sport for health, education, equality, inclusion, solidarity and the environment.

“Impact 2024 International” is also fully in line with the call for projects that has been launched by AFD since 2019, and which has already subsidised 51 projects in more than 21 countries. The call will be renewed three times in 2022 and 2023.

This is the second flagship initiative implemented by AFD and Paris 2024 in Africa after the Incubator dedicated to athletes with entrepreneurial projects with social and environmental impacts, the second edition of which will be launched in 2022.

Tony Estanguet, President of Paris 2024: “With three years to go before the Games, this call for projects is a symbol of our ambition to build the legacy of the Paris 2024 Games beyond French territory, alongside Agence Française de Développement. During this difficult economic and social context for the whole of Africa, we wish more than ever to mobilise the associative and sporting actors who use sport a driver of resilience, solidarity and development for vulnerable populations. Up until 2024, and with the four editions of the “Impact 2024 International” call for projects, dozens of actors will be able to contribute to shaping and co-constructing the international legacy of Paris 2024.
