Integrating a human rights-based approach into climate policies.
We are pleased to invite you to a Research Conversations session on 26 March, from 10:00AM to 11:30AM, dedicated to the links between climate change, human rights and public policies.
Based on research carried out by the national human rights institutions (NHRIs) of Colombia, Gambia, Honduras, Kenya, Namibia and Sierra Leone with support from the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR) and AFD, this Research Conversation will present the impacts of climate change on human rights and recommended measures in the six countries by reviewing the added value of the human rights-based approach in climate policies.
The discussion will focus on the response by public authorities in the countries concerned, particularly in Kenya, with a view to strengthening the effectiveness, fairness and legitimacy of adaptation policies, risk reduction and response to climate impacts. The debate will also be extended to other geographies, notably with the point of view of AFD’s agency in Bangladesh. The exchanges will also illustrate how this work can be part of a mutual learning exchange where global North actors learn from the experiences of global South actors.
The sequence will be moderated by Farid Lamara (AFD), around three interventions:
- Maria Ploug Petersen, Danish Institute for Human Rights.
- Patrick Bonyonte, Kenya National Commission on Human Rights
- Cynthia Mela, AFD Agency in Bangladesh
The exchanges will be held in English, with simultaneous translation in French.
