Sahel - 2019 Activity Report
published in June 2020
As a priority area for French development policy, the Sahel is faced with a diverse array of security, climate, economic, social and political challenges. The countries in the region (Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal and Chad) also possess considerable assets in terms of agriculture, energy and a dynamic, young population. AFD is convinced that this region should not be considered exclusively as a crisis zone, and is working to support the resilience and dynamism of the Sahel in the pursuit of peace and sustainable development.
